Hey, sorry folks... it was a moment of stupidity!

others having similar problem PAY VERY VERY CLOSE attention to " For
example, if you have a file in "myapp/media/image.png" it gets served
as "<MEDIA_URL>myapp/image.png" (NOTE THE MISSING "media/"). " in the
dirs at http://code.google.com/p/app-engine-patch/wiki/MediaGenerator.
