As Jonathan N Washington, I disagry with this proposal. First, we certainly do not need hundreds of Web interfaces for Apertium. One web interface working on any Web browser, even 5 or 10 years old used on any operating system may be enough.
HTML forms (with textareas, imput zones, checkboxes and lists of choices), PHP scripts to run it, few CSS and very few javascript (it can be usefull to get the size of the window and to adjust automatically textarea size and URL input zone width) may be enough for a translation website. I did one for Apertium : http://apertiumtrad.tuxfamily.org working even with old web browser with only that. As I don't have root access on the server and as Apertium needs newer and newer versions if system libraries, translation don't work with a lot of language pairs, but there is no problem for the web interface. 7 years ago or earlier, it was necessary to have an external reader for watching videos taken from Web. Now, except for interactive editors like framapad and framacalc (or any google equivalent) and direct (not pre recorded) audio ou video, HTML code (whitch can be generated by PHP script or similar) is enough for quite any website and it is enough for a translator using Apertium. And a website of that kind, will work the same on any web browser (or more than 99 %) presently used. Your proposal is to develop specific web interfaces done to work only on several platforms as there are sotfware only working on Windows (for example). > Date: Thu, 9 Apr 2020 12:31:57 -0700 > From: Samuel Sloniker <[email protected]> > To: [email protected] > Reply-To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: [Apertium-stuff] PMC proposal > Pièce(s) jointes(s) probable(s)> > I added some more pros as well as a few cons. > http://wiki.apertium.org/wiki/PMC_proposals/Use_Material_Design#In_detail > > On Thu, Apr 9, 2020 at 10:52 AM Jonathan Washington < > [email protected]> wrote: > > > That's not a good reason to choose something.
