Hello

That was more 5 years I thought to that and as it is christmas it is a
good occasion to speak about this new toy, event if the most important
is still too few implemented to make the result usefull.

There is always an official Apertium translator, but it does only
direct translation with a rekeased pair, and when a released pair is
changed, it can take years before an update of this website (needing
a new release).

So, my idea was there sould be also a non official translator working
with development pairs, and also allowing to do cross translation.

So, I first started last year a local website. People who were at Alicant
summer school in July 2016 may have seen it, and then, after a lot of
inprovements, another one not very diffierent to put it on line.

This site is supposed to do :
- lema translation and surface form analysis for any existant language pair
- text and web page translation using any language pair at least at
nursery level (with a possibility of restriction to a upper level)
- possibility to use one intermediate language for text and web pages
  translations.
- changes on language pairs taken into account in the 24 following hours.

The problem is presently, it is in the same state as a new born baby :
Nice, as always peopole, expecially parents say about babies, but
anable to walk or to have a chorent speech.

So presenly, this translator as a nice multilingual interface but
presently don't translate anything.

The website is hosted for free by a french association : tuxfamily.org
(an association hosting websites about free software, free documentation,
free art).

A I already have 3 websites hosted by them, it was not difficult to
upload the html and php part.

But to install Apertium in a way that would both make it visible by
cron and by the PHP server, there wassome restrictions :

- no root access, that also means, no apt-get access,
- no possibility to write in a /usr/local directory (that may not be
the same for cron and php),
- at the beginning, the default disk space wich was 200 Mb, but I got
  10 Gb.

Presently, I succedded to make several tool like lt-expand working
with a shh access. That allows to run a cron that will prepare the
files for lema translations. The cron is ready but must be accepted
by the tuxfamily manager.

For the other parts needing to use apertium tools but also other
things as pkg-config, both for cron and php access, i will have to
install more things, and it will be done only after the 5th of next
January.

The website is :
http://apertiumtrad.tuxfamily.org

For multiligual interface, ther may be inprovements to do :
- the correspondance between iso code and languages names is only
full in French and English. List in other languages are a bit
  shorter.
  Files are in
  http://apertiumtrad.tuxfamily.org/ficref

- messages for multilingual pages are in
  http://apertiumtrad.tuxfamily.org/messages

- documentation pages in html are in different subdirectories of
  http://apertiumtrad.tuxfamily.org/pages

Any help is accepted to improve translations.

Happy Christmas.
