Hello, I wanted to do a subtitle translation. I'm writing this while I have the information right here. Here was my experience, from the Wiki,
== 1 Gaupol I tried Gaupol, out of repository. The program works, and looks good (my kind of software), but will not work through Apertium. I try installing the Apertium extension. This fails in the given 'local' location. So I hack the Gaupol installation directly, inserting the extension code and modifying the Gaupol version. This fails, telling me that the module needs updating to Python3, GTK updates, etc. Perhaps to be expected, but that's my first attempt failed. == Apertium Subtitles The Java tool. First effort, the web, fails. So I install 'ant' and 'Open-JDK', go for a compile. This fails on a message similar to 'properties not set to JDK_1_6'. Attempts to follow the given instructions fail. I'm not surprised at this. No Apertium Java tool has ever worked for me, and the instructions suggest the tool is best edited with NetBeans. I don't want to install a full Oracle/Java development environment (none of my computers are powerful enough to run that). == Commandline tools A tool called 'translation-tools'. In repositories. Then I find, disappointingly, that 'sub2po' is not there. Strangely, the Python code and the 'man' page is there. So I copy up a launcher in /usr/bin. The launcher fails, complaining 'gaupol.subtitle' is missing (yes, I still have 'Gaupol' installed. Well, ok, presumably that is why the launcher was removed. == Ending Well, I'm not asking anyone to fix any of this. But some confirmation I have not gone very wrong anywhere would be nice. I might put some notes on the Wiki ...if this is a fair description of the current state of these project (i.e. would need work to be up to date or, perhaps, these are abandoned directions?) Please, I do not want help for any of the projects above---if it will not work from the Wiki, I loose interest. However, I would be interested if there is a current method of levering Apertium translation for subtitling e.g. a project exists which I have missed?
