The internship can be carried out remotely, as far as I know. The problem
with having a university host this internship is that I will need to stay
here throughout the programme, so I would be unable to travel overseas.

My school is quite lax with this. The internship needs to be held from 3 to
27 of November. Proof that I've done some work should suffice. I'll check
with my teachers and get back to you as soon as possible.
