Hello Apertium people! Our group is looking for a collaborator on a grant pre-proposal (due June 30th). I'm asking the Apertium group because your work is relevant to our proposal and you may have an interest in participating or have relevant connections.
What are we doing? We are building 3D language games for second language learners. We are looking for an instructor in one of the colleges in the ACM. (American Colleges of the MidWest). We're hoping that an instructor in one of these universities will participate in the grant, by testing our games in the classroom or in online learning outside the classroom. Without participants guiding us on what works the project wouldn't succeed! The level of involvement in grant writing and level of funding for the participant is flexible. This project is particularly relevant for LCTLs as we are developing a back-end with content for >500 languages. Our whole project is open source/free software. Our group leader is Dr. Olga Scrivner of Indiana University. The open source Openwords database (openwords.com, openwords.org) will serve as a back-end for the games. We also intend to use the Apertium translator and work with the Apertium community. If you want more details on our project, please contact me at my email. I can share more details about the grant and project! [email protected] Thank you, Marc Here are the relevant colleges: Beloit College Carleton College Coe College Colorado College Cornell College Grinnell College Knox College Lake Forest College Lawrence University Luther College Macalester College Ripon College St. Olaf College Here is the description of the program: This Call for Pre-Proposals (1-2 pages) invites ideas from ACM and CIC faculty teams interested in designing and piloting ways for liberal arts colleges and research universities to collaborate in the areas of digital humanities (DH) or sharing languages (SL), including, but not limited to, less commonly taught languages. The liberal arts colleges of the ACM and the research universities of the CIC1 seek to help their faculty explore ways to enhance teaching, learning, and research in DH or SL through collaborations among colleagues across both ACM and CIC institutions. Funding can be used to help faculty gain perspectives from the other institutions and teaching environments, to create cross-consortial learning communities that will contribute to personal and professional development, to expand resources available to faculty through sharing, and so on. Successful projects will bring new resources to the classrooms and research initiatives of participating faculty and also share the results with colleagues. Deadline: June 30, 2015 Selected Pre-Proposals will be invited to compete for funds up to $42,450 that will be awarded in October 2015. http://www.openwords.com -- Marc Bogonovich, Ph.D. Openwords LLC 2305 East Second Street, #23 Bloomington, IN 47401 -- phone: (413) 884-4467 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ _______________________________________________ Apertium-stuff mailing list [email protected] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/apertium-stuff
