out of curiosity, why? Because they are of superior quality? Or because it's
just easier?

I use commons logging/log4j for logging, and castor for xml to code
bindings. JAXB was stuck in DTD land when I started working with Castor, and
I am happy enough -ish, that I am not ready to change.
