Leading Open Source office application and personal productivity suite for
Windows and Mac now more secure and available in 41 languages
Forest Hill, MD —12 October 2016— Apache OpenOffice, the leading Open Source
office document productivity suite, announced today Apache® OpenOffice™ v4.1.3,
now available in 41 languages on Windows and OS X.
Boasting more than 200 million downloads, OpenOffice includes a word processor
("Writer"), a spreadsheet ("Calc"), a presentation editor ("Impress"), a vector
graphics editor ("Draw"), a mathematical formula editor ("Math"), and a
database management program ("Base").
"As an Open Source project led by an all-volunteer community, occasional lulls
in momentum are not uncommon," said Marcus Lange, Vice President of Apache
OpenOffice. "Such was the case with OpenOffice until recently. We wanted to
change this, starting with a new bugfix release."
Under The Hood
Apache OpenOffice 4.1.3 features include:
- Key security vulnerability fixes;
- Support for new language dictionaries;
- Numerous bug fixes, including installer and database support on Mac OS X; and
- Enhancements to the build tools (for developers)
"This release symbolizes a resurgence in the project," said Patricia Shanahan,
Release Manager for Apache OpenOffice 4.1.3. "We are proud to continue
development of one of the most visible and widely used Apache projects."

Apache OpenOffice is used by millions of organizations, institutions, and
individuals around the world. In addition, OpenOffice plays an integral role in
many governments, in response to their mandates to use files in the ISO/IEC
standard Open Document Format (ODF).
OpenOffice supports localized versions in more than 120 languages; those that
are 100% translated and maintained are officially released.
As with all Apache projects, Apache OpenOffice is available to all users free
of charge, and, as Open Source software, its C++ source code is readily
available for anyone who wishes to enhance the applications.

Apache OpenOffice software is released under the Apache License v2.0 and is
overseen by a self-selected team of active contributors to the project. A
Project Management Committee (PMC) guides the Project's day-to-day operations,
