I'm interested in knowing more about the reported lack of debugging support.

can you enable adb debugging on the device?
If you can then one issue is that adb (on the host) doesn't have support for
archos' usb vendor id, but that can be fixed.

The easiest way for now is to have developers to manually create a file
called adb_usb.ini in ~/.android/
in it just put a single line with the vendor id as an hexadecimal value
(0x1234)
(If archos published an add-on this would be done by the add-on)

Let me know what you find out.
