I'm interested in knowing whether the TOS for Android Market allows
for a freely-downloadable application to be distributed on the Market,
with a means of charging the customer (via Google Checkout, PayPal,
etc.) for access to "premium" features (which would also be available
external to Android applications). The Content Policy at
http://www.android.com/market/terms/developer-content-policy.html
says:

Developers may offer free applications as access points to paid
services for which customers have registered and provided payment
information. This should not be used as an alternative means to the
Android Market Payment Processor to collect payment for usage of
applications.

This is essentially what I'm thinking of, a free application acting as
an access point for a service for which the user has already paid. It
sounds like I'm OK there. What I don't know is, is it OK for an
application to provide the user with an means of signing up for a paid
service from within the application (via a URL link or similar) if
they haven't already signed up?

In any case, the app would provide a reasonable level of functionality
without requiring the user to pay anything, so this definitely is NOT
a case of a "free" application trapping the user into paying for
something they were led to believe was free.

I'd be interested in knowing what anyone thinks about this, and also
any insights into other groups I might pose this question in if this
one is not appropriate.
