This is definitely still an issue in Cupcake. Thought setting the theme via xml is typically an acceptable approach, there are situations where that can be cumbersome (for example, an Activity class that gets sub-classed in several applications). Besides, it's just bad form to have an API that doesn't do what it claims to do. ;-)
