Do you have a real phone? If so, have you tried installing a video player app (from the Market) and play your videos?
If you only have emulator, then probably it won't work. I had a video that worked fine in a real G1 phone, but shows up as black in the emulator, and the sound only played for a few seconds, and then everything stopped.
