Cool. So it sounds like I should just be able to use a relative path
from the current location then. Unfortunately, I'm getting the
following exception (with no clues as to why start is failing):

Here's my code:

recorder.setAudioSource(MediaRecorder.AudioSource.MIC);
recorder.setOutputFormat(MediaRecorder.OutputFormat.THREE_GPP);
recorder.setAudioEncoder(MediaRecorder.AudioEncoder.AMR_NB);
recorder.setOutputFile("test.3gpp");
recorder.prepare();
recorder.start();
