You can create an app targeted at any version of Android (1.0 if you
wish - I aim mine at 2.2 as it informs me that 100% of the devices who
have accessed the Play Store in the past n (3?) months run at least 2.2).
You have the option to download the dependencies for whichever version
of Android you want to compile for at a minimum, but yes, the fact that
it supports Android 6 is as you said, support for, not ONLY for.
Actually on a related note - I've got some apps (not mine) which work on
my older device, but crash on my phone that I've upgraded to Android
5.1.1 - Is there any way to tell what won't work in a new version of
Android than what you've selected?
I've seen a few commands listed as depreciated but it doesn't indicate
whether there would be a problem running with them on say Android 6 or not?
Kind regards
Quentin.

I was getting ready to download and install Android Studio. But as
best I could tell, it Android Studio will create an app for use on
Andriod 6 (Marshmallow). What about previous versions of android?
On the features list at the Android Studio page, it says "Android 6.0
Marshmallow". I'm hoping that just means that it INCLUDES support for
Marshmallow but I wasn't sure.
TIA.
