Truth be told, the Android API is full of poor design decisions. It appears to me that much of it was done in a rush just to get something out there to compete with Apple. That may have allowed Google to compete, but unfortunately we developers have paid the price in time and headaches. (P.S. That's why I had such high hopes for webOS, b/c it was so much more developer friendly.
