I ended up creating a custom UI element and using obtainStyledAttributes<http://developer.android.com/reference/android/content/res/Resources.Theme.html#obtainStyledAttributes(android.util.AttributeSet, int[], int, int)>. It is not exactly what I wanted but it works :)
