forgot to mention how I am calling my service in main activity class. Here 
is how I call the service:
 
......
........

setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);

MyService ms=new MyService();
ms.startService(new 
Intent(this,MyService.class).setAction("com.example.action.PLAY"));
....

...
