Even if I run the SDK manager OUTSIDE of eclipse, it could not rename the tools directory. Fortunately I found this answer:
I had the exact same problem but with the "tools" directory. I solved it by manually renaming "tools" to "tools-old" before the installation. Works perfectly now.
