The emulator takes some time to start up the very first time. You are
still in the emulator boot process. Let the emulator run until you get
to a home screen, then try again to run your app.

If your emulator runs for 10+ minutes and still does not get to the
home screen, your development machine may have too little RAM or too
slow of a CPU.
