I installed Pointer Location. I guess I have some bad news. Pointer Location showed that my touch screen was _extremely_ responsive. It was picking up absolutely every touch I gave it. This means the hardware looks solid. But I also think it necessarily means that something in the Android View code is swallowing, or otherwise ignoring touches in certain situations.
