Somebody has to wield the big hammer? No, we could all descend into madness and chaos. Always an option.
But here's the thing: TreKing's answer is actually the most useful answer to this sort of situation. It's not arrogance. The single most helpful, useful advice he or I or anyone can give a new person asking the typical new-person question, is actually to inform them that it IS a question they can and should learn to answer themselves. Don't underestimate the value of that advice! Arrogance comes into play when someone thinks we owe them answers to their every question. Yes, that happens. Hokeypokey says: "Aznd I do believe that is why we havce sites such as this, to spread the learning curve?" I don't agree. I don't think you can "spread" a learning curve by asking other people. And in cases like this, you don't even shorten it -- you lengthen it. Replies are not instantaneous - in most cases, you can find the information in far less time by looking for it yourself -- AND learn a huge amount of other valuable information along the way. That path is generally far more efficient and effective. Posting questions here would be for the exception. And should be approached that way. If you can't find something documented anywhere -- tell us where you looked, what you tried. We can be much more effective in our assistance then. Our answer might still be to refer you to the documentation, but we can at least help you with your difficulty in locating it. But your basic expectation should be -- read the documentation first. The primary role of the documentation is to shorten the learning curve. You don't need to read it all at once -- but learn where the relevant parts are, and how to find information. This will empower you. That is how every single expert here -- got to be an expert. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Android Developers" group.
