I have three Android tablets now, Galaxy Tab, Viewsonic gTablet and Nook Color. The Galaxy Tab is really nice, and definitely has the best Android integration out of the box. It also has the most hardware features like dual cameras, 3G, and GPS. The form factor is nice, but I wish they thinned out the edges a bit, it's kind of chunky, and is also the most expensive ($600, no contract.)
Next, I bought the Nook Color, rooted it, and like the form factor the best of all three tablets. When CyanogenMod comes out for NC, it will be great, but even the stock BN Android is not bad. Since NC can boot directly from the sdcard, dual booting stock and CM would be really nice. For the price, this thing is awesome. Last, I bought the Vewsonic gTablet to debug some native code that was segfaulting on tegra2. The CPU is great, and I love that it has a USB host port, but now I'm convinced I'm not a fan of the 10" form factor. The biggest drawback is easily the display, which has a weird viewing angle. I can't remember if it was that bad with the stock software, but I put CM 6.1 on it almost immediately, and the display looks wonky unless viewed at the proper angle, which ironically seems to be with the tablet oriented upside down and to a slight angle. Maybe it is some sort of 3D display, or maybe I need to get new glasses, but the NC and Galaxy Tab both have beautiful displays. The Nook Color is the one that I am really enamored with... possibly because it has a lot of homebrew Android possibilities, but also because of the price point and form factor. BN did a really good job on it. And with some rooting it is really a universal reader, working with BN, Kindle App, and Google Books. -Howard On Dec 9, 10:44 am, Jon F Hancock <[email protected]> wrote: > Doh!
