I have an ImageView and do this: Drawable d = getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.my_image); d.mutate().setAlpha(50); myImageView.setImageDrawable(d);
This works fine on 2.2 but on 1.6 and 2.1 (the only other ones I've tested on) the alpha has not been changed.
