many phones work out of the box once u pop in ur SIM card.

users are not expected to create a login, enter email, etc, as they do to
their PC.

so better use MSISDN or IMEI, they are guaranteed to be unique.
(Well, if the device is authorized, the IMEI will be unique.  Some black
market phones however reuse the same IMEI #, :)
