This core functionality needs to be present for all developers to tap in to. Otherwise the platform is nothing more than an embedded device with keypad and display, nothing more significant than a PDA. If in the final release of the SDK this functionality is not present I'm certain a number of hacks will come out at the software layer or OS layer.
