The same message comes up for logs created by the above Apache CustomLog
entry, logfiles which have no old format in them, only the new 'combined'
format.
EG:
analog: Warning M: Logfile
/home/icontario/logs/www.planetfriendly.net.log.0969753600 contains
lines
with no referrers, which are being filtered
With the entire logfile being (Well, except for the word-wrapping that is
indicated here ;-):

Is this something I should be avoiding using?
Note: Normally I would just turn warnings off, but I have noted that since
turning "REFERRER ON" it shows fewer successful requests. I also suspect
that the warning is telling us something a bit more than just that the
referrer entry is set to "-"
I'm also wondering if there is a way to avoid problems where there were
quotations in the GET request.
Things such as:
24.24.121.40 - - [26/Jul/2000:15:18:57 -0400] "GET /seminars" TARGET=new HTTP/1.0" 404
275
(I know - buggy browser, and I believe that Apache should be encoding that
quotation, but....)
It seems some of the search engines cause referrers with quotations in
them like:
64.229.128.44 - - [21/Aug/2000:09:28:47 -0400] "GET
/graphics/occ-small.jpg HTTP/1.0" 200 4051
"http://www.google.com/custom?q=free+website+templates+designs&site=search&hl=en&safe=off&cof="L:http://www.openconcept.on.ca/graphics/occ-small.jpg;LH:80;LW:150;AH:left;"&domains=openconcept.on.ca&start=10&sa=N"
"Mozilla/4.74 [en] (X11; U; Linux 2.2.14-5.0 i686)"
