Are you sure it's taking this? I just discovered a probable bug on my box.
I have in amavis.conf : $MYHOME = '/var/run/amavis';
$unix_socketname = "$MYHOME/amavisd.sock";
and in /usr/sbin/amavisd-release
$socketname = '/var/lib/amavis/amavisd.sock';
changing this line to
$socketname = '/var/run/amavis/amavisd.sock';
makes it work.
unix_socketname vs. socketname ?
