You need to have your shared SMB mounted and accessible in your directory
structure before Amarok starts, then you can simply select it as local
collection.

i know it is mounted, because i can access the music from other music
players. i can access the music files from amarok if i take the music
files and drop them onto the amarok icon, but that only works for the
files that i drop onto the amarok icon.
