You hopefully are aware that current kf5 version si pre-alpha and not
yet released, expect some regressions. Please file a bug in
https://bugs.kde.org against that version. This would be indeed a
serious regression.

I was aware that it is still at the pre-release stage, but as it is
being removed from Kubuntu 19.10 and all the other software I have tried
has other issues I thought I'd give it a try.
The only reason I posted about it to this mailinglist was to see if
anyone else could replicate the problem. A bug report
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=411760 has already been raised.
