I would try to use direct ALSA API (without pulseaudio involved). I saw
some bugreports regarding pulseaudio and ICE1712 cards.
Just type: 'aplay -D plughw:0 <some_wav_file>' (0 is card number) and
set
audio mixer properly: 'alsamixer -c 0' .

Hi,
I have tried this and got the message back
Playing WAVE '/tmp/Track6.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 44100
Hz, Stereo
I got my prompt back after what seems like the time the wave file would
need to play. During this time I have not had any sound from the sound
system.
I have tried some more things from Ubuntu forums also dealing with
the /etc/pulse/default.pa file. Still no analog output from the
M_Audio-Audiophile 2496.
I have re-activated my onboard sound and /proc/asound/cards now is:
0 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
HDA Intel at 0xf9efc000 irq 16
1 [M2496 ]: ICE1712 - M Audio Audiophile 24/96
M Audio Audiophile 24/96 at 0xec00, irq 23
What's next?
Namaste,
Kevin Tough
