I used this command:
fuser -v /dev/snd/*
An I got:
USER PID ACCESS COMMAND
/dev/snd/controlC0: val 31395 F.... mixer_applet2
How can I check if pulseaudio is running at all? I have no use for
pulseaudio (I use ALSA's dmix instead), so if there is a way for me to
turn it off completely, I would like to do that to eliminate it as a
potential source of problems.
