Hello,
on my wife's ThinkPad running Ubuntu Gutsy (7.10) and ALSA 1.0.14 I
get no sound. But using the Gutsy live CD the sound works (and on my
desktop with the same sound chip (and Gutsy) but rev 01 instead of
rev 02 sound works, too)... It's quite strange since I compared
those files from the live CD and the installed system I thought they
were worth to:
- /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base: no differences
- /etc/modules: the installed system loads lp and sbp2 additionally
- $ lsmod | grep snd: no differences
- md5sum of
/lib/modules/2.6.22-14-generic/ubuntu/media/snd-hda-intel/snd-hda-intel.ko:
identical
I also compared the corresponding start scripts from the
installation and the live cd---but there are also no differences.
Where can I look for differences to get the sound on the ThinkPad to
work? I already tried to load the module with different options in
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base (e. g.: options snd-hda-intel
model=thinkpad) as described in
/usr/share/doc/alsa-base/driver/ALSA-Configuration.txt.gz. And I
booted the ThinkPad with "acpi=off noapic" boot parameters, but it
did not help. I used alsamixer, the GNOME panel volume control, and
the volume control buttons of the ThinkPad to turn volume to 100%
and it's not muted. Further, in the BIOS the modem is activated.
