I have just upgraded to kernel-2.4.22 and my other USB sound card, based on BurrBrown 2702, works now (primary one is VIA82). In fact this is an FM-transmitter LineX. As I do not want to use only one of the cards all the time, I would like to learn how to select which one will be used for sound output.
LineX card can be hotplugged, but only once between reboots. And then I have to manually configure for example XMMS, to use oss or Alsa, to route the output to the correct card. It looks pretty much unpredictable what happens with the cards, and I have to reboot sometimes to get back to via82 sound. I did not configure anything yet, but I have read stuff on Alsa Wiki and it seems there should be a way to write a script or something, that would enable me to select cards. Can anybody walk me through the topic please, because I believe this was not discussed before (point me if yes)? I would put my learnings together in the Alsa wiki for the others. (here is what i did for OSWorkflow project http://wiki.opensymphony.com/space/OSWorkflow+Running+the+Example+App#tomcat41 ) I have some specific questions but first of all, what would be a general approach here?
