Hi,
I have had the same experience.Having downloaded alsa-driver, alsa-lib, alsa-utils (all 0.9.0rc7), I compiled and inserted the driver, with seemingly no errors. The same happened with alsa-lib and alsa-utils. Everything seems to work fine, and lsmod shows up with snd-via82xx. alsamixer lets me unmute and set the channel volumes fine.
I also have a VIA8233A on a ASUS A7V8X motherboard. I have tried all to make it work but to no avail. Apparently it is for the moment a hopeless task.OS: slackware-current (4-feb-2003) Hardware: VIA8223A Southbridge AC97 on Gigabyte GA7VTXE motherboard GCC: gcc-3.2.1
A footnote (http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/template.php3?company=VIA&card=&chip=via8233a&module=via82xx) for the VIA8233A on the Alsaoproject site explains that :
"From looking at the mailing lists and from personal experience, it does not appear that all devices based on the 8233 chipset are supported, specifically motherboards (i.e.: MV42N), although PCI audio
cards seem to do better."
So basically it looks like we're done for. All e can do is wait for driver development to get it rigth.
