hello! I'm using ALSA 0.9rc7 on a RH8.0 system with 2 "cheap 5:1 capable soundcards" : o a soundblaster 128 o an on-board AD1980 (ac97 -> intel-8x0)
both are capable of playing 5:1 surround sound. but what I'm interested in is having at least 1 device with two stereo outputs. since I intend to use this in my own code I don't care if I have to open 2 seperate devices (something like /dev/dsp0 & /dev/dsp1) or one device with 4 channels. also I don't really care about the quality of the sound - the only important thing is that the 2 devices don't drift, i.e. use the same (or 2 syc'ed) DAC - which should be the case if it's the same card. so far I managed to use 1 stereo channel on each card. From the various documents I just get hints that what I want to do should be possible....but I get very confused about the naming of the alsa devices: is there a document which explains the mapping of minor-numbers <-> sound-services <-> alsa-device-names <-> oss-device-names? because my not understanding of this seems to be my major problem. so: did anyone achieve that? I would be very interested to know how your setup....(conf.modules and which devices to open how) or does enybody know if it's possible at all (with ALSA)? I might be wasting my time... thanx a lot dec -- +++ GMX - Mail, Messaging & more http://www.gmx.net +++ NEU: Mit GMX ins Internet.
