Hello everyone,

I've got a VIA-686 integrated soundcard, my distro is RedHat linux 7.1 with
vanilia kernel 2.4.19-pre6. Alsa driver improved very much quality of sound
output, but both versions 0.5 and 0.9 gave the same problem:
mp3s and WAV files are played and the quality is good; indeed there is no way
to hear sound from audio CDs.
Cdp correctly reads all tracks, but no sound is produced. I tried increasing
volume settings in amixer, but there was no positive result .
I even tried to record files from an audio-CD source, and the result was a
WAV-file with silence recorded in. A friend of mine is experiencing the same
problem with different mainboard, different distro and same audio controller.

Is there an additional setting that has to be done after those are written in
README/INSTALL/FAQ files?

thank you in advance for any suggestions
ciao
