Hi, I have a Sertek (ie Acer) DCS S817 PCI Sound Card which uses the Yamaha 724 chip. While it works great under ALSA for output, it wouldn't give any input that's recordable. Since I've seen some folks complaining about this in the past, I'll share my fix. amixer eset 'MIC Boost',0,Volume1 1 Maybe not genius work, but it was set to 0 by default. Setting it to 1 (which is the max) adds 20dB of input happiness and allowed me to get microphone sound at a similar level to all the other items on my mixer. Since this value is not touched by any of the GUI mixers I have installed, my card just seemed "broken".
