Your clip on microphones are actually very good mid range quality units. As far as quality goes, any professional studio that you visit on either coast will offer you a U87 or a 416 but you are not in a studio you are outdoors. Your best choice for outside ambiance is the NT1a because of its extremely low noise. You can get either a new or used one on ebay for a fraction of the cost of a 416.
