Biba,
I have removed the mirror glass from the motor unit. I still don't see any
movement in the motor and the adjustment portion. I do hear clicking from
the solinoid.

Before I began the disassembly, I moved the mirror from side to side/up and
down to make sure that it was centered. Still no movement. The solenoid
does click, so I think it is corrosion keeping it from working. You are
probably correct about the gears being brittle. I'm hoping that there is an
option for replacing the unit with a new one from another vehicle. --Bruce

Bruce, if the mirror is still on, look to see if the mirror is way over to
 one
side, which also includes top and bottom. If this is the case - and please
don't hold me responsible - push 'down' on the mirror in the opposite
direction of the low side. It actually might take a fairly good push, but
hearing a clicking sound is good. If you can operate the toggle switch to
have
the mirror move in the direction you are pushing, that is ideal.

I've found that the mirror, when moved to far to one side - either with the
switch or someone pushing on it (who shouldn't have) - the plastic gears
are
at the end of where the two gears can sync. I've gone through the process
several times with no problems, but this doesn't say that the plastic gears
aren't brittle, so be prepared.

If the mirror is off, it is almost impossible to install it back on the
motor
housing without forcing the gears since that procedure requires a lot of
pushing.
