Originally the monopolies were good, they were the only way it made sense to
build out phone lines. It prevents duplication of services which does not
generally work in any kind of public utility. However, telecom is not a public
utility like a sewer line or freeway like it was years ago.

Do a little research on “common carriage”. Dates back to the roman empire.
The king gives you some protected turf. Trucking companies, Railroads,
Airlines were all governed the same way. If your trucking company was lucky
enough to score a plum route good for you. Just like filing a claim on public
land and striking it rich in gold or other resources.

Oil leases on public land anyone?

Some folks are luckier than others. Be happy for them.

So using this logic, the $90B we wasted on Green energy projects was an
efficient use of tax dollars? The only guys that made out were the investors
and people that worked for those companies that had high paying jobs for a few
years.

Extending it into our industry, the monopolies that the FCC is creating in the
telco industry are good for the customers?

. . . And if telcos can get RUS grants or CAF subsidies to build fiber, no
rural telco is going to build fiber until it gets its grant or subsidy. . .
