Proposal for Melbourne Solaris and OpenSolaris User Group Project (MSOSUG)
Purpose: To drive awareness and adoption of Solaris and OpenSolaris in
the Melbourne region of Australia.

Project Description: The purpose of this project is to drive both
Solaris and OpenSolaris awareness amongst all Solaris users and
potential users in the community in this area.
The desire is to increase OpenSolaris adoption wherever it is a good
fit, and encourage users to become more familiar and active with
OpenSolaris. It is hoped that the group would ultimately contribute
documentation and small code changes back to the community, though at
this point, as the group is as young as it is, that may take some time!
The project will archive its contributions including presentations, and
other material to the project space on the OpenSolaris site.
Project Needs: This project requires project space on OpenSolaris.org
site. The project also requires a mailing list. Suggested list name is
ug-msosug at opensolaris dot org. (Or even just msosug at opensolaris
dot org. :)
Related Projects: At this stage, as the user group has only recently
formed (we have had only one meeting) at this point, we believe it's
best to push mostly for adoption and understanding first, then strive
for active community participation.
Related past activities: Our first meeting, which was on the 12th of
September had 42 attendees including presenters. The presentations were
for Live Upgrade and the Niagara 2 CPU overview. Next month's
presentations are to be ZFS and Solaris 10 Update 4 new features.
As already indicated, the group is young and there is a lot of core
Solaris learning that will need to take place for much of the group, so
we envisage that the first 6 months or so will be interchangeably
Solaris / OpenSolaris. :)
