It's always something
Fuse that POE!
Don't Blow That Port!
POE Circuits need protection. Protection from
surges and protection from over current. Not all POE supplies will survive a
short circuit. But surge protectors create short circuits.
Wait, what?
Surge protectors are needed on all Ethernet
circuits but especially POE Ethernet circuits....
but... Surge protectors can destroy POE
Ethernet circuits? Seriously?
Kinda reminds me of this old Star Trek scene:
Liar Paradox
Yep, as a matter of fact some of the very best
Ethernet Switches out there will produce the magic smoke if you short a port.
And a surge protector clamping an impulse shorts out all the Ethernet lines to
ground.
Idiot technicians with wire cutters can do this
too.
So - WHAT TO DO????..... WHAT WILL WE EVER
DO?!?!
Relax, the solution is easy!
Fuse Those Ports Soldier!
LEDs on both sides of the fuse shows both power
on the input and power on the output. A blown circuit is immediately visually
obvious. It is kinda important to install the fuse between the POE supply and
everything else like the load and surge protectors and that idiot technician
you hired because he is the boss's son in law.
