3.1.0 version supporting rails 3.1 has been released: http://activescaffold.com/2011/9/15/rails-3-1-support
I haven't tested render_component in rails 3.1 so loading embedded scaffolds by AJAX is the default and recommended way now. I think all features are working, but I haven't tested it intensively.
