Founded in 2000, CREA is a feminist human rights
organisation based in New Delhi, India. It is one of the few international
women's rights organisations based in the global South, led by Southern
feminists, which works at the grassroots, national, regional, and international
levels. Together with partners from a diverse range of human rights movements
and networks, CREA works to advance the rights of women and girls, and the
sexual and reproductive freedoms of all people. CREA advocates for positive
social change through national and international fora, and provides training
and learning opportunities to global activists and leaders through its
Institutes.
Key Responsibilities
Summary:
a.. Work closely with the Executive Director
and other senior managers to develop and implement communications activities
that advance CREA's mission and strategic initiatives
b.. Provide strategic direction and planning
for all of CREA's communications initiatives, and help to develop internal
capacity to support effective communications
c.. Position and manage the CREA brand
d.. Create communications opportunities for
increased organisational visibility and respond to emerging/urgent external
events that intersect with CREA's mission
e.. Write and/or edit content for all
communication channels, in coordination with the Communications Officer and
external contractors
f.. Review and strengthen all of CREA's
communications materials, tools and channels
g.. Over time, play an important role in
helping CREA and our programme partners to craft effective public advocacy
strategies
1. Develop a Communications Strategy
a.. Review CREA's current Communications
Strategy and external communications activities (materials, channels and
collateral) and suggest areas for improvement and action;
b.. Develop and manage the implementation of a
focused, measurable and achievable annual Communications Strategy to help
ensure CREA has appropriately identified and is able to effectively engage key
external stakeholders and audiences;
c.. Align the strategy with CREA's plans to
celebrate its 15th Anniversary and coordinate and provide direction to the
consultant hired to manage communications activities around the Anniversary and
related projects
2. Strengthen Programme Communications
a.. Work with programme Directors, Managers and
staff to develop and implement strategies and communication activities to
support and raise the visibility of CREA's programmes
b.. Develop communication tools related to
CREA's key programmes, as needed
c.. Work with the Operations Officer and
Communications Officer to support communications work related to CREA's
programmatic events, and participation in external conferences and special
events
3. Strengthen CREA's Online Presence
a.. Develop ways to maximise the communications
value of CREA's newly-revamped web site and monitor its effectiveness;
b.. Work with the Communications Officer to
post regular, ongoing online content updates based on programme developments
(announcements, article links, stories, news and events), including web site,
Facebook, Twitter, blogs or other social media tools as recommended in the
Communications Strategy;
c.. Raise the online visibility of CREA and of
its issues (for example, through suggesting additional women's rights and human
rights sites, blogs, and so on for a presence/ interaction/sharing of resources)
4. Manage External Contractors
a.. Develop a comprehensive database of
external communication contractors (for example, writers, photographers,
videographers)
b.. Develop terms of reference and manage
hiring and deliverables of external contractors
Key Characteristics
a.. Be a Graduate (Master's Degree preferred,
or equivalent experience) in the area of communications/social science/ human
rights/ international development or related fields;
b.. Have 7-10 years of experience in external
communications; preference will be given to people with experience with NGOs
from the global South and/or international development organisations;
c.. Have an understanding of issues relating to
women's rights and the sexual and reproductive rights of all people, and a
commitment to advancing these rights;
d.. Be an excellent writer in English and be
able to communicate well with both internal and external audiences;
e.. Be detail oriented and thorough, with an
ability to self-motivate and produce high-quality work;
f.. Be committed to ongoing professional
learning and sharing knowledge with CREA staff.
