Hello,

There was an advertisement in the Anandabazar Patrika, a leading Bengali daily,
on November 2 asking for applications for about 1000 jobs in the South-Eastern
Railway. There are several posts like fitters, machinists, telecom technicians,
etc. which have been reserved for low-vision candidates. I know, there are
several totally blind fitters and machinists in Lilua and Kharagpur Railway
workshops. Still these posts have been earmarked for low-vision applicants
only. What is most significant is that there is no post for totally blind
candidates in this advertisement. According to the ad, it should be available at
www.rrbkolkata.org
You can check the web site for details. But the link is not working yet.

I am seriously worried if totally blind candidates are going to be considered
at all for jobs in future. I am not against the low-vision people. At least,
they are more wanted than we are; aren't they lucky? We want employment for
all, for blind people, low-vision people and for sighted people. We belong to
the same society.

Blind Persons' Association has appealed to the Railway Minister, Miss Mamata
Banerjee, today. I have asked them to appeal to the Chief Commissioner on
Disabilities. They have asked me to find out if any relevant documents such as
court order are available. So, if someone has any document, pleas mail a copy
to me or to [email protected]

With best regards,
Amiyo Biswas.
